Big brother copycat uitgeschakeld

Het Kroatische Nova TV heeft door gebruik te maken van de naam en format van 'Big Brother' inbreuk gemaakt op de auteursrechten van Endemol, zo bepaalde de Kroatische rechtbank gisteren. Nova TV gebruikte de naam en format van Big Brother in 2003 voor een 'daily reality show', zonder dat zij hiervoor toestemming had van Endemol. Een jaar later was de gelicenseerde versie van Big Brother, uitgezonden door RTL Kroatië, daar een grote hit.

Wim Hoen, Endemol’s Intellectual Property rights manager: “We are regularly confronted with parties who want to take advantage of the success of our formats. Especially in Central Europe there are many copycats. It’s crucial that we deal with such matters.
